Microsoft / GSMA Project Report

I’m pleased to have arrived in Ireland to work with the O2, to co-ordinate the launch of the market research segment here. Many thanks to the O2 team, in Marketing, Program Management and the Network management group. There is excitement here, as O2 is just rolling out broadband service in Ireland, so we’re here at just the right time.

I’ll be off to the Netherlands on the 20th to meet with our notebook ISP software company. More soon.

Nitrogen Blog

Reporting from Bangkok. Flying in, I was amazed. For some reason I had the impression that Asia was all about rural farming. Not so. Bangkok is very much a modern city. The Airport is totally amazing. Apparently it just opened last year. Its beautiful structures are reminiscent of aircraft internal wing design. And so much glass, how can they suspend that much glass with so little structure. Very beautiful

I enjoyed the long walk from the gate to the main building and the gal’s voice announcing the end of the moving walkway. The language is pleasing to listen to, having never heard it before, I’m enjoying every bit of my time so far.

The view from the Conrad is awesome. i took a timelapse of a construction crew building a skyscraper just a few blocks away. At the ground level not too far away is a beautiful 2 story building, lush green area. Also, there’s a school nearby, children playing sports outdoors.

My first meal in Thailand was coconut soup with chicken and a small slice of chocolate cake. All together about $12, with tip. Very very good room service. Comfortable location, in the same plaza as the Bangkok Microsoft building.

Starting my Travel Blog on the Microsoft/GSMA mobile broadband project

I’m leaving today for Narita, Japan via Seattle and then on to Bangkok. This is my first trip across the Pacific. I’ll be sleeping, getting into Bangkok at 10:50PM tonight but really so many timezones west, at the moment I have no idea what time that’ll be in Washington or Oregon. :-)

Glad I brought my nano.

Aspenworks at Microsoft / GSMA project HQ

We’re looking for a small computer to demonstrate to purchase intenders in Turkey. These notebooks should have the capability of running mobile (cellular) broadband. If not, we can attach a USB modem externally.

· 14” running Vista Home Basic or Home Premium.
· 1GB RAM and an integrated DVD
· sell in retail for less than around $1000 USD
· low end CPU (Celeron, AMD, etc)
· have about 60-100G HDD

Drop me a note if you know of these inside Turkey.

Can’t wait to see the Blue Mosque.

Microsoft Nitrogen Project / Engaged Aspenworks

Aspenworks received a contract from Microsoft for Project Management in the Unlimited Potential Group. The Nitrogen project is a joint effort between Microsoft and the GSMA to help determine the nature of the broadband mobility market. “Its a thrill to be working on a project of this magnitude. The future of mobile broadband has stalled, and seeing this level of interest by the worlds largest association of mobile broadband players, across 23 countries, should indeed produce key results that benefit Microsoft, GSMA and their clients ” – Alex Huppenthal

Aspenworks is pleased to announce this initial contract agreement and is looking forward to a long term relationship with GSMA and Microsoft.
