Internet innovations are the cornerstone communications solutions used by billions of people. “In 1988 when I registered my first domain name, we were among a few dozen “Network Managers” on the Internet. Advanced Intelligent Networks (AIN) for Sprint, AT&T drove telecommunications development at a staggering rate. As a community service, I offered Internet email transfer and accounts in Dallas Texas. This small Internet server uplinked to AT&T and Sun Microsystems, processing thousands of messages a day.
Eventually, Internet services would replace Bellcore and AT&T vision within the Advanced Intelligent SS7 networks. Massive telco investments and strategies struggled. At the same time a small Unix PC server in 1988 communicating with Unix to Unix Copy, served hundreds of individuals globally. Empowered by a truly free market connecting with one another using Email, News – social networking. No one could envision the rapid growth in broadband connectivity these genuine open market forces would bring. Led by 5,000+ independent Internet Service Providers, free Spectrum in WiFi and open protocols, the Internet communications revolution took place.
